Kirklees deserves better – and I’m ready to deliver it

This election is a moment of truth for Kirklees.

Residents across our borough are asking the same question, why does it feel like our communities are being left behind? Why are basic services declining while council tax rises? Why are decisions made without listening to the people they affect?

I have spent years listening and, more importantly, acting. Since being elected to represent Batley East in 2017, I have stood side by side with residents. I have knocked on doors, taken up casework and raised issues others have ignored. I have challenged decisions when they were wrong and I have pushed for fairness when our communities have not been treated equally.

Let me be clear,  too many parts of Kirklees are not getting their fair share. In North Kirklees especially, we have seen services reduced, facilities closed and investment fall short.

Residents are frustrated – and they have every right to be. When communities see resources going elsewhere while their own streets, parks and services decline, it sends a damaging message that some areas matter more than others.

I reject that completely. Every part of Kirklees matters. Every resident deserves clean streets, safe neighbourhoods and access to services they can rely on.

But right now, that is not the reality. Fly-tipping continues to blight our communities. Roads are left in poor condition, with temporary fixes instead of long-term solutions. Local facilities have been lost, weakening the very fabric of our neighbourhoods. These are not small issues. They affect people’s daily lives.

And they are fixable. What has been missing is not money alone. It is leadership, accountability and the willingness to stand up and demand better. That is exactly what I offer.

I am not interested in politics as usual. I am interested in results. I have used every tool available to me to support local projects, from youth initiatives to community events, because I believe strong communities are built from the ground up. I have consistently raised concerns about inequality across the borough, because fairness is not optional, it is essential.

But I know we must go further. My priorities are clear.

I will fight for fairer investment across Kirklees, so that no town or neighbourhood is overlooked.

I will push for stronger action on environmental issues like fly-tipping, ensuring our streets are clean and respected.

I will demand better from our highways services, so residents are not left dealing with the same potholes again and again.

I will continue to support young people and families, because investing in them is investing in our future.

And I will stand up for residents every single time without hesitation.

This election is not about empty promises. It is about trust. People are tired of being told things will improve “in time”. They want to see action now. They want councillors who are visible, accessible and willing to fight their corner.

That is the standard I set for myself. And it’s the standard residents should expect from anyone asking for their vote.

Kirklees has enormous potential. We are home to hardworking people, strong communities and a proud heritage. But potential alone is not enough. It must be matched with the right decisions, the right priorities and the courage to challenge when things are not working.

We cannot afford more of the same. We cannot accept the decline of services as inevitable. We cannot allow any part of our borough to be treated as an afterthought.

This is our opportunity to demand better and to choose leadership that will deliver it. I am ready to continue that fight.

If re-elected, I will not step back. I will step forward with stronger determination, clearer priorities, and an unwavering commitment to the people of Kirklees. Because this borough belongs to its residents.

And it is time their voices came first.
